Role Overview

DST/SS&C processes a multi-state payroll for over 7,000 U.S. employees in Kansas City, MO and is currently seeking a Payroll Manager to lead its challenging and fast-paced payroll department. This position is responsible for delivering timely and accurate payrolls in compliance with all tax regulations and authorities.

The Payroll Manager:

  • Oversees the activities of the payroll function

  • Develops policies and procedures for payroll process and timekeeping

  • Ensures the generation of the company payroll, including labor distribution records, vacation and sick leave accrual, overtime and withholding status.

  • Meets all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions.

  • Reviews work to measure meeting of objectives.

  • Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors.

  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or schedules.


  • Responsible for accurately processing multi-state payroll bi-weekly in a timely and accurate manner and ensuring all payroll interfaces are accurately loaded with changes (such as demographic changes, benefits, and compensation).

  • Partner with the SS&C stock plan administration team to process stock payrolls for the vestings of RSU’s and the exercises of Non-Qualified Stock Options for all global stock plan participants and ensure proper tax withholdings.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with ADP and 3rd party benefit vendors.

  • Maintain payroll operations in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control standards and assist internal / external auditors perform their payroll audit procedures.

  • Understand payroll strategies and deliver recommendations for improving payroll processes and workflows.

  • Develop knowledge of the “Hire to Retire” processes (employee lifecycle) within the scope of the centralized shared payroll services DST/SS&C performs for its U.S. subsidiaries.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of work-related experience, or Master’s degree and 4 year of work-related experience, or 8 years equivalent work-related experience

  • 5-10 years of payroll accounting experience

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience

  • Experience with ADP Global View, SAP, Workday HCM or other ADP payroll systems is preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll, taxes and locals, treatment of stock transactions such as RSU’s and non-qualified deferred compensation
